Laughed – Genesis 17.17

Genesis 17:17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?

Here is a man that God had called from Ur of the Chaldees. God guided him through Haran and into the land that His progeny would inherit, the land of Israel. He had seen God bless him to the point of wealth so great that He had to separate from his nephew Lot because the land was not big enough for both of them. Then Abraham saw God use his 300 servants to defeat the army of 5 different Kings to rescue his nephew. He had experienced conversations with God and made a covenant with God. Yet when it came to an impossible promise, he laughed, he laughed to think that God would help him and his wife, Sarah, to have a child when he was 99 years old, and she had already gone through menopause. Decades of trying to conceive, and now God promised a son, so he laughed.

Today, you may be new in your walk with the Lord, or you may be decades into your relationship with the LORD. Remember, He is God, and if he makes a promise, He can and will fulfill it no matter how absurd or impossible it may seem. Listen for His voice and do not assume your thoughts are His thoughts. He is the God of miracles, including the ability to use you and I despite our failures and despite our doubts.
