Just preaching or Laboring also – Colossians 1.28-29
whom we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus whereunto I also labour striving according to his working which worketh in me mightily Colossians 1.28-29
How often do we hear the word of God and say, “My friend, My loved one, that person” needs to hear these words. So we go, and we preach, share with them the truth of God’s word. We throw it down at them, throw it in their face, and expect it to change them. Today’s passage reminds us that we need to do more than preach. We need to teach. We need to explain and help them develop an understanding of and the full application of the truth we preach at them. We need to warn them, yes, but there needs to be laboring and a dependence on God to help us work it into their lives. Not with an air of condemnation but with a sense of care, asking God for the strength to deal with their ignorance and rebellion. We need to come alongside and strive to help them. It is easy to preach, but a true saint will work with the individual to help them. Without this type of work, we will not see God working in and through us to help a friend in need.
