What wrong with my prayers? – James 4.3

James 4:3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.

Prayer is our avenue to know God. Yet so often our greatest emphasis in prayer is on getting what we need, “that we may consume it upon your lusts”. The truth is that what we really need is confidence and commitment to the Lord God. If we are confident in the goodness of God, (Exodus 34.6), then we simply trust that He will provide it. 1 John 5.14-15 tells us that if we know the will of God and pray according to the will of God, we can have confidence that we will receive the requests that we give to him. The biggest problem is time. We don’t want to dedicate the time to know God and his will; instead, we just throw up a request and hope for the best and blame God when we don’t get it. Today, let’s repent of our using God to get what we want and spend the time, make the time to learn of His goodness and truth.
