Carry them before the Lord – Exodus 28:29-30
Exodus 28.29 And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually. 30 And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goeth in before the LORD: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.
A strange verse to think about. It describes the “uniform that the High Priest of Israel, in this case Aaron, was to wear in the tabernacle. The Urim and the Thumim, two stones sewn into the shoulder of the garment, were there to remind him of his responsibility that he carried for the people of Israel. It reminds us that we should continually remind ourselves of those that the Lord has given us responsibility for, our spouses, our friends, and our families. Are we placing their names in our prayers? Are we carrying them before the Lord in prayer?
It also entails the responsibility of Judgement, not in the sense of ruling and condemning, but helping them to discern right and wrong, guidance as a father or mother does as they raise their children, counseling them. It is a sign of love and devotion.
