Help my unbelief – Mark 9.24
Mark 9:23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth. 24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief. 25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him. 26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. 27 But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose. 28 And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast him out? 29 And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting.
We are so short on faith to believe that God wants to work in our lives. We doubt his presence; we wonder if it is real. We think God should heal us, help us, deliver us; we might even pray about it. But, do we ask God, do we pray and fast over the issue? Our sinful souls want to take the easy route; we mention it and then get wrapped up in our worldly pursuits, and we do not persist. O God help our unbelief. We need to see you move, we want to see you move, but we are not willing to invest in that burden through persistent prayer and fasting. We will mention it at prayer meeting or in our prayer moment but that’s it. The New Testament is filled with references to the need for fervor and persistence in prayer.
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened
Show your persistence and fervor Look up Luke 18:1-8 and increase your faith in prayer.
