Humility – Philippians 2:3-8

Humility

Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. 4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

I like to only use one verse but can we really understand humility without the example of Jesus Christ. He shows us through his sacrifice what humility is. He is God, He sat with all power and comfort on the throne of heaven overseeing the affairs of men. Yet He planned and executed laying aside all that and came down to His creation without any of his power or majesty and allowed those he ruled over to rule over him. Now that is hard, allowing others to rule over us, not feeling threatened or deprived because we know our eternity is secure, cannot be lost no matter what men may do to us. but this is a calling for us, a task we need to set our mind to. Serve others first and serve them fully not just with eye service, not just to make them think we are humble. Don’t worry if they don’t like you God loves you and has given you everything you need.
