Sober 1 peter 5.8
1 Peter 5.8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
Be sober, our culture and language cause us to think only of not being drunk with alcohol. But the original language has a specific word for drunk and even another for under the influence of wine, this is neither of those. It is not a negative word as in “do not”, but a positive word about being alert and unaffected by any activities that would distort or alter your perception of reality. It is to be clear minded and alert to your surroundings seeing the blessings and avoiding the dangers. It will require exertion and focus, thus the word vigilant.
The reality of the verse is that there are all kinds of booby traps, obstacles that are put in your path by the devil. he is seeking to cause you to falter in your walk with Jesus. He wants to consume or remove your testimony for Jesus and if you do not maintain a clear head and continually remind yourself of the dangers to your faith you will falter. Remember the devil cannot take away your salvation but he can muddy your spiritual reputation.
