Time to wash up – John 13.6-10
John 13:6–10 “6 Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet? 7 Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. 8 Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me. 9 Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. 10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.”
Think about it, how would you feel if your pastor, came down from the pulpit, took up a wash basin of water and came up to you, knelt down in front of you, removed your shoes and started washing your feet, or even the feet of the person next to you. NO, you would say. But Jesus rebukes Peter and tells him that it is necessary for him to be washed to have a part in Jesus. Yes it is necessary that each one of us comes to that point in our lives where we realize that we need to allow the blood of Jesus Christ to wash away sin, the dust and dirt of the world in order to make us whole, saved, a member of the family. You may have made a professions of faith, gotten saved but are you allowing him to continue to cleanse you of your sins? Never to late, never hurts to do it again. Ask him today to forgive your shortcomings, how you have allowed the dirt of this world to cling to your heart and influence your decisions and actions. He wants to serve you.
