(11-3-2021) Jeremiah 51

Jeremiah 51
Today in my reading I was impressed by the passage in Jeremiah 51.  God declares that the nation that He chose to judge Israel will themselves be Judged for not acknowledging the God of Israel and continuing to look to other gods

Jeremiah 51:38 They shall roar together like lions: they shall yell as lions’ whelps. 39In their heat I will make their feasts, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the LORD40I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he goats.

It speaks of God making them drunk.  If we go to Daniel 5 we see Belteshazar holding feast filled with drunkeness, using the bowls, and cups from the temple.

Daniel 5:1Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. 2Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein. 3Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them. 4They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.

The end result is that the kingdom falls to the Medes and Persians that very night.
Daniel 5:25  And this is the writing that was written, MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN. 26This is the interpretation of the thing: MENE; God hath numbered thy kingdom, and finished it. 27TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting. 28PERES; Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians.
God will continue to control the events of this world.  A nation can fall overnight.  Make sure your faith is not in the events of the day but in the God that controls every event

Proverbs 21:1 The king’s heart is in the hand of the LORD, As the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
