12-4-2021 Pursuing the knowledge of God

Hosea Chapter 4

1 Hear the word of the LORD, ye children of Israel: for the LORD hath a controversy with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no truth, nor mercy, nor knowledge of God in the land. 2 By swearing, and lying, and killing, and stealing, and committing adultery, they break out, and blood toucheth blood. 3 Therefore shall the land mourn, and every one that dwelleth therein shall languish, with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven; yea, the fishes of the sea also shall be taken away. 4 Yet let no man strive, nor reprove another: for thy people are as they that strive with the priest. 5 Therefore shalt thou fall in the day, and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night, and I will destroy thy mother.
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.

As I read through this passage this morning my eyes welled up with tears to think that our nation and our community seems to line up with this description.  How long before we come under judgement for our refusal to acknowledge and learn of God, Jehovah.

We will invest thousands of dollars on the education of our children that they might know and understand the ways of this world, science, psychology, business administration, sociology, etc.  But we will hardly dedicate any money or time to training ourselves and our children in the knowledge of God. What about you and your education in the things of God?  Oh, we might encourage our children and ourselves to go to Sunday School, and sit through a sermon, 2 hours a week, but we/they will spend 32 hours a week at school learning the ways of the world, another 20 or so learning from games and TV the ways of the world.  Hardly seems balanced, which method do you think will have the most influence?

Please consider committing a block of time to learn from God, to learn about God through the Word of God that He has so carefully preserved for our use today.  We must reverse this trend, or our children will suffer the consequences.
